Nemeshit
A downloadable game
A horizontal shooter about going in the wrong end and blasting your way out of the other.
Ace space pilot Arnold Brownscheiss gets hit by an enemy shrink ray, loses control over planet Earth and heads straight for a man. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong end.
Now he has to fight his way through the whole human body, from the rectum to the mouth, and burst out and get back to the space war. Hopefully finding a way to regrow otherwise he's a bit f*cked.
The game
Nemeshit is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up in the old-school style: scrolling caverns, waves of enemies, power-ups and a big boss at the end of every stage.
- 17 levels and bosses, all based around the inside of the human body
- Power-ups take your gun from single shot to double, triple, and triple with diagonals.
- Coins and an upgrade shop: every boss drops a coin. Spend them on more lives, a faster ship, more damage or faster firing. Upgrades are permanent across runs
- The game loops. Beat the final boss, go back in harder.
One game, lots of machines
Nemeshit isn’t a single port. It’s been built natively for a whole stack of retro platforms, each version written for that machine’s own hardware:
- Commodore 64
- ZX Spectrum 128K
- ZX Spectrum Next
- Amiga: bootable .adf floppy, .hdf hardfile and a WHDLoad install
- SNES
- Sega Mega Drive / Genesis
- NES / Famicom
- Game Boy Color
As you can see in the picture, numerous versions have been tested on the original hardware.
It's vibe coded. Thoughts below:
Nemeshit is a vibe-coded game. This was a fun experiment to build a shooter using claude on the C64 that got severely out of hand and I ended up porting it to a ton of retro computers/consoles as well.
I don't consider myself to have made it, I consider myself at best to have commissioned or directed it. I wrote a design doc, then tweaked the output. Basically, much like if I asked someone to build a shed. I asked someone to make a shed to my specs and they did. I didn't make a shed.
I don't believe people should sell vibe coded games. Hence why this is free.
If you want it porting to another console/retro computer I'll see what I can do.
